Post fire QuickBird browse-image of Santa Barbara, CA acquired
by DigitalGlobe on the morning of Thursday May 12, 2009 and provided with
courtesy of DigitalGlobe. This browse-image has a spatial resolution of 15
meters. The actual image is archived with a spatial resolution of 60 cm.
The burned surface boundary was interpreted from the browse-image and the burned
surface area was calculated topographically via ortho-metric terrain adjustment
using the NED terrain model. This procedure provides a value of 10,104
acres (40.9 sqkm). The same boundary on a flat plane yields a boundary of
8,725 acres (35.3 sqkm).
