GeoEye-1:  Sample Images and Product Information

On September 6, 2008 GeoEye, Inc. successfully launched its next-generation earth imaging satellite GeoEye-1 into earth orbit.  Click on the links below to display samples of GeoEye-1 pan-sharpened natural color 50 cm imagery.

Our response to requirements from prospective customers attends to these routines ...

Key Features
With a panchromatic spatial resolution of 41 cm and 1.65 meters in multi-spectral mode, GeoEye-1 offers the sharpest most detailed imagery of all commercial satellite imaging systems.  However,
the U.S. government requires re-sampling the imagery to 50 cm for customers not explicitly granted a waiver.

Geospatial Registration Accuracy
GeoEye-1 offers imagery with an absolute geospatial location accuracy of 3 meters without ground control points on flat terrain.  This means that GeoEye-1 customers can map features to this level of accuracy for unprecedented low prices.

Products
We offer:  geo-referenced imagery, ortho-rectified imagery, stereo imagery, large-area tiled mosaics, and image-derived products such as DEMs and thematic feature layers.

Agility
GeoEye-1's sensors can rotate to allow either side-to-side swath doubling of the system's 15.2 kilometer swath or stereo imaging of the same target from a single orbital pass to derive Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) and topographic contours.

Frequency
GeoEye-1 travels on a polar sun synchronous orbit that enables a three day to revisit time with targets acquired in the proximity of 10:30 a.m. local time.  It completes 12 to 13 orbits per day from an altitude of 684 kilometers (425 miles) with an orbital velocity of about 7.5 km/sec or (16,800 mi/hr).

Volume
With an imaging swath of 15.2 km, GeoEye-1 can acquire up to 700,000 sqkm of panchromatic imagery and 350,000 sqkm of multi-spectral per day.
