The Landsat
Data Continuity Mission (LDCM)
|
As the name implies, the LDCM (effectively
Landsat-8) is designed to extend the Landsat
program's nearly 40 years of continuous normalized
satellite-based earth observation for at least five
additional years. Beyond that, the US congress has
ordered studies to support the development of a ninth
mission - (effectively Landsat-9).
The design of the Landsat-8 OLI (Operational Land
Imager) will offer the following performance
improvements over that Landsat-7 ETM+ (Enhanced
Thematic Mapper Plus) ...
- radiometric: narrower band ranges
augmented with two additional bands,
- geometric: approximately 4x the
absolute geodetic accuracy with an expected CE90 value
of approximately 65 meters - without ground control or
terrain adjustment.
- data volume: the ability to record
400 scenes per day - a 150 scene per day improvement.
By
early 2013, we expect that requirements from prospective
customers will be attended with these routines
...
- familiarization with the customer's
needs,
- searching for the best, most
recent, and historical archive
coverage,
- system tasking to
record new imagery,
- quick provision
of accurate, competitively-priced, solution-oriented
quotes,
- and speedy product delivery with
long-term customer support.
